Founded in 1994, EUROPA DONNA – The European Breast Cancer Coalition is an independent non-profit organization whose members are affiliated groups from countries throughout Europe. The Coalition works to raise awareness of breast cancer and to mobilise the support of European women in pressing for improved breast cancer education, appropriate screening, optimal treatment and increased funding for research.

Europa Donna currently has national groups in 47 member countries. Its Head Office is located in Milan, Italy but it is an international organization whose official language is English, so all written and oral correspondence is in English.

The Position:

The candidate will have the following tasks:

• Managing ED’s online presence, with a specific focus on targeting and engaging with national organisations and EU policy and decision-makers in the field of public health and breast cancer
• Managing ED’s social media presence:
  • Managing and continuously updating the editorial plan
  • Creating effective and engaging content and campaigns daily, including clear, action-oriented messages and visuals
  • Engaging the online community by responding to posts and developing discussions
  • Monitoring and reporting social media performance
• Assist CEO with preparation of .ppt presentations, speeches, interviews, draft of emails, etc.
• Support ED Staff with the organization of events and congresses

Skills needed:

• Mother tongue English
• Experience as a social media manager (for at least 2 years), with solid knowledge of managing social media accounts, including community building and engagement, performance reporting, and the use of various tools and software, including networks analysis
• University degree, preferably in a relevant field such as communication science, journalism, public relations, or marketing, with a proven track record in (public) health policy
• Excellent copywriting skills
• Skilled in basic graphic design and experienced in working with creative agencies is a plus
• Strong, provable commitment to ED’s vision and values / personal experience of breast cancer
• Knowledge of, or strong affinity towards health policy
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• Pro-active, creative and curious
• Experience in a multi-national, multi-cultural environment
• Located in Milan metropolitan area

The organizing Committee of of the 13th edition of the European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC-13) has made the difficult decision to postpone the conference to November due to the current COVID situation. The new dates are 16-18 November 2022. We are delighted to announce that the regular rate fee will remain valid until 14 September. Registrations will reopen in early February and we look forward to your participation. Further information will be posted on the Conference website soon.

All women – in Europe and around the world – should have the same access to cancer care, regardless of who they are and where they come from.  One year ago, the Commission launched Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan to signal its renewed commitment to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and quality of life. Since then, the EU has put the necessary elements in place for its a smooth implementation and is beginning to deliver on its objectives.

On 2 February, Commissioner Stella Kyriakides will host a hybrid event entitled “Ensuring equal access to all” to raise awareness of cancer in women and to announce the latest actions under the EU’s Cancer Plan. President von der Leyen is part of the programme, alongside CNNs Christiane Amanpour and other testimonials from persons with a history of cancer, Minister Véran, MEP Trillet-Lenoir and President of the European Cancer Organisation, Tanja Spanic, President of Europa Donna – The European Breast Cancer Coalition and the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology.

The event will take place from 14.30 to 16.15 and will include the announcement of new cancer plan deliverables.

The event will serve as a prelude to World Cancer Day, the global initiative to unite the world in the fight against cancer, which takes place on 4 February.

EUROPA DONNA’s 15th Pan-European Conference, entitled “New Strategies for a New Normal,” will give participants an overview of the state of breast cancer advocacy in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, which continues to impact every aspect of breast services in Europe and threatens hard-fought progress we have made over the past quarter century. The conference will provide updated information to help advocates improve breast services in their countries, making use of lessons learned in the pandemic. Scientific experts will provide lectures on research, breast imaging and the role of AI in screening, breast surgery and testing for biomarkers and personalized care. Implementation of the ECIBC project and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan will be covered as well as topics of interest to advocates such as return to work after breast cancer and dealing with long term effects of breast cancer treatment. Advocates will participate in workshops giving practical guidance on managing long term survivorship, and strategies for return to work. Special networking groups for young women with breast cancer, women with metastatic breast cancer and women with genetic risk will be held.

1 June 2021– Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan is an important step regarding the EU’s action on tackling cancer, but its pivotal success will be dependent on the Plan’s execution.  To achieve the Plan’s purposeful goals and to maximise its potential, it will be essential for policy and decision-makers to support the Member States in the implementation of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.  In this context, Transforming Breast Cancer Together of which EUROPA DONNA is a member, launched its Renewed Call for Change in which the coalition analyses the Commission’s proposed actions on cancer and provides a set of recommendations aimed at reducing inequalities and ensuring better breast cancer care for the benefit of patients in the EU. TBCT calls all EU policymakers on both national and EU levels to implement the Plan ensuring that no one is left behind.

28 May 2021– International Day of Action for Womens Health is celebrated every year on 28 May and established as a reminder to address the multiple causes of disease and death that affect women all over the world. Every woman has a right to Access Quality Health Care, no matter which part of the world she hails from, what age she is, or what her ethnicity or religion is. To mark the occasion, ED Communications Officer Barbara Klein was a guest on the latest episode of the EU Patients Podcast where she discussed what it means for women with breast cancer to have access to quality health care and what can be done to make sure that all women have access to quality health care.
