Top scientific experts will offer lectures on topics such as surgery, radiation, genetic testing, and breast imaging. Implementation of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan will be covered in a keynote speech by Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety and former ED President. Progress on the ECIBC project and topics of interest to advocates will be outlined such as survivorship and QoL, management of side effects, exercise and MBC, and the changing face of managing breast cancer at different stages of life. Advocates will hear lively panel discussions on cutting edge subjects including advocating for people with risk factors such as dense breasts, identifying and overcoming inequalities, and becoming active in breast cancer research. Throughout the conference, attendees will be able to actively discuss, give their points of view and ask questions to the experts.

EUROPA DONNA’s 15th Pan-European Conference, entitled “New Strategies for a New Normal,” will give participants an overview of the state of breast cancer advocacy in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, which continues to impact every aspect of breast services in Europe and threatens hard-fought progress we have made over the past quarter century. The conference will provide updated information to help advocates improve breast services in their countries, making use of lessons learned in the pandemic. Scientific experts will provide lectures on research, breast imaging and the role of AI in screening, breast surgery and testing for biomarkers and personalized care. Implementation of the ECIBC project and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan will be covered as well as topics of interest to advocates such as return to work after breast cancer and dealing with long term effects of breast cancer treatment. Advocates will participate in workshops giving practical guidance on managing long term survivorship, and strategies for return to work. From Policy to Best Practice
Is the theme of this year’s conference and will give advocates key information and strategies to help them move from policy to achieving the provision of best practice in their countries. The European Commission Initiative on Breast Cancer (ECIBC) is completing its work on new Guidelines and a Quality Assurance Scheme so the next step is implementation on behalf of all women. A panel of experts will give us their views on accomplishing this. In addition, we will hear from professionals in research, breast imaging, and breast surgery, as well as those conducting innovative programmes in complementary medicine and survivorship. Advocates will participate in workshops giving them practical guidance on managing long term survivorship, techniques in utilising research and social media for advocacy, and how to advocate for implementation of the ECIBC nationally. Special networking groups for young women with breast cancer and women with metastatic breast cancer will be held.

Is the theme of this year’s conference which will describe the essential breast services that women should receive and provide some strategies to advocate for their implementation across all European countries. The time for action is now as the deadline for implementation of specialist breast units according to the European Parliament Breast Cancer resolution is 2016.  Participants will learn about the ECIBC (European Commission Initiative  on Breast Cancer) project, as well as hear from experts on trends in research and personalised medicine, advances in treatment, and information on survivorship programs.  Advocates will participate in workshops providing concrete information on advocating for improved breast cancer services, survivorship plans and using social media. In addition, special networking groups for young women with breast cancer and women with metastatic breast cancer will be held.
